January 2024: Daily Approval Rounding Rules
Note that enabling Rounding Rules will enable it for all departments by default. You can then customize each department or disable it.
Setup:
To setup Rounding Rules for your organization, please contact our support team and let them know the following information:
- Interval to be used - Options are 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 minutes. The Approved Time field will be a multiple of this interval.
- Mid Point to be used - This determines at what point we round up or down.
- Mid Point behaviour - what should the behaviour be if the mid point is the actual time, should it round up or down?
Usage Example:
Rounding Settings:
Interval = 15 minutes
Mid Point = 8
When Equal to Mid Point Round = Up
Shift Time = 5:00 am to 1:00 pm
For the above shift, the employee punches in at 4:56 am and punches out at 12:48 pm.
The interval of 15 minutes ensures that the approved time will be a multiple of 15.
The Mid Point and it's related behaviour determines whether it should round the punch up or down to the nearing interval.
For example 4:45 or 5:00.
Results for the above example would be:
- Punch In time of 4:56 am can round to either 4:45 or 5:00.
The midpoint of 8 minutes determines that times between 4:45 to 4:52 (7 minutes) will round down, and times between 4:53 (the 8th minute) and 4:59 will round up.
Therefore, the Punch In time will round up to 5:00 am. - Punch out time of 12:48 pm can round either to 12:45 or 1:00.
The midpoint of 8 minutes determines that times between 12:45 to 12:52 (7 minutes) will round down, and times between 12:53 (the 8th minute) and 12:59 will round up.
Therefore, the Punch Out time will round up to 12:45 pm.
